The deforestation in Peten is mainly due to the beef cattle industry.
We hope to set examples and extend our reach to need to be able to surrounding cattle ranch land holders to join us in restorative, sustainable practices, stopping further deforestation of remaining lands.

CONNECTING COMMUNITIES WITH RESOURCES 2022
CONTOUR LINES
In 2022 we helped to organise a number of our local communities to connect with Contour Lines, an exceptional organization who have been successfully aiding thousands of families in Guatemala to increase their yields and improve soil quality. Donating their time, offering guidance, making soil assessments, distributing plants, Contour Lines have assisted communities in Guatemala shift thousands of acres of land to the Agroforestry model. We hope to work more with Contour Lines in the coming years to implement these methods in our own immediate community.
CREATING CAUSEWAYS THAT ALLOW SPIECIES TO RETURN
The local lands we live on between the lake and the protected Mayan biosphere borderline used to be pristine jungle. They have been almost entirely cleared over the past 30 years for cattle and mono crop production. Some areas are already beginning to face desertification.
We carry the responsibility to rewild nature, protect the local biodiversity, wildlife, to create new forms of abundance that are in alignment with nature, and to create a model example of living sustainably that will help others to follow.
